The City of Sarnia is pleased to announce that Mr. Ken Barros has been promoted to Chief Building Official, effective January 21, 2019.
As Chief Building Official (CBO), Mr. Barros is responsible for the management and leadership of Building Services and performing the statutory requirements of the CBO, as required by the Building Code, and Municipal Building By-law and other applicable laws as amended, including issuance of Building Permits, plans reviews and inspections.
Mr. Barros maintains his role as Supervisor of Building and his new CBO position continues to reside within the Community Development Services and Standards Department.

Ken Barros is a graduate of LCCVI and the Architectural Technology program at Fanshawe College. Previously worked as Plans Examiner/Building Inspector for the Town of Lincoln. Mr. Barros has held the position of Building Code Technician, Building Official, and Supervisor/Deputy CBO at the City of Sarnia within the past 5 years. Mr. Barros is a certified member of the Ontario Building Officials Association and is qualified under the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing.
As the Chief Building Official, Mr. Barros will work with local stakeholders and agencies to increase opportunities for local residential land development and ensure construction complies with applicable codes and standards.
