The final phase of the 2018 bike lane project is underway with the removal of the existing road paint markings.

The road paint is being removed using a method called “soda blasting.” Soda blasting involves baking soda blasted at the existing road paint under high pressure to remove the lines without damaging the underlying asphalt road surface.

It is an environmentally friendly industry standard method to remove road paint. The blasting will temporarily create dust in the immediate vicinity of the work. The baking soda is non-toxic and non-hazardous. The dust remaining on the road will be cleaned up with a street sweeper.

Work will occur on Colborne Road, Capel Street, Russell Street (from Maxwell Street to London Road), and Cathcart Boulevard (from Christina Street to Colborne Road).

The work has begun and will take approximately four days to complete. The City thanks you for your patience as we complete this exciting project to improve our cycling infrastructure.
